Who Would Have Guessed That I Would Own a Business?

I never imagined myself as a business owner. In fact, that was the furthest thing from my mind when I began quilting and sewing products after my retirement. I was just looking for a hobby to help me through the transition from work to retirement. I wanted to use the newly acquired time to rekindle my love of creating handmade items. I thought that I might share a few items with friends and family, but did not think much beyond that.

As I created more items, my family began to encourage me to put them up for sale. They helped me to have the courage to take that first big step. As I began to get orders from friends, family, friends of friends, and finally from people with no connection except that they just happened to see one of my items on Facebook, the notion of opening a store started to creep into conversations. Increasing my ability to connect with additional customers and to offer a wider range of items, along with prodding from friends and family, have lead me to opening my own store. Who would have guessed? NOT ME!

Owning an eCommerce store has certainly been, and continues to be a learning experience for me! Each day I experience something that I did not know the day before. Often frustrating, there is also a sense of accomplishment as I tackle and master a new skill. The creation of products is the easy part for me! Learning the technology of creating a website, networking, forming a corporation, advertising and selling are all foreign territory.

Next Chapter Quilting is not only my business, but it is also my new learning adventure. I guess old educators never die! I invite you to join me on this journey.

Traveling through "NEXT" steps,

Chris
